Melbourne Florida Mexican Food At Francisco’s Mexican Restaurant

We found some of the best Mexican food in Melbourne Florida completely by accident. One evening we had planned to meet friends at a local Indian restaurant at the corner of Wickham Road and Lake Washington Road and to our surprise and disappointment it was closed. Consequently we decided to check out Francisco’s Mexican Restaurant right behind the defunct Indian restaurant and now it is a regular stop when we get the urge for Mexican cuisine.

The place is small as it has about 7 booths and a dozen tables, but it is a worth while stop when hunger calls and you are looking for lunch or dinner. You may not notice it just by driving by because it is on the west side of the strip mall on the southeast corner of Wickham and Lake Washington, but it is worth the effort to find it.

As usual at any Mexican restaurant such as Francisco’s you are greeted when you sit at your table or booth with a basket full of warm corn chips and salsa for you to munch on and Francisco’s salsa is one of the highlights of the restaurant. It has a nice spiciness to it without being over the top and if you don’t watch out, you may end up stuffing yourself with chips before you meal arrives. That’s just one of those habits that’s hard to break, so you’ll probably have to exercise a lot of self control once you taste the salsa.

My favorite thing on the menu and what I now get every time I visit Francisco’s is the Burrito Supremo minus the sour cream. It usually comes with sour cream and guacamole and they give me extra guacamole for the missing sour cream without even having to ask for it. The burrito contains a mixture of beans, rice, onions and more and you can get chicken, ground beef or shredded beef added to your filling. I always get the chicken and it is marinated in something that adds a delicious and tangy flavor to it. I only eat half my meal and then take the rest home to have it for lunch the next day. With the chips and salsa and only half of the Burrito Supremo I never leave the restaurant less than stuffed because the portions are huge. One of the more interesting things on the menu is the cactus burrito that we tried once. It was a little too sweet for me, but it may be your thing. Don’t worry, all the cactus burs have been removed.

Not only is the food delicious, the service is top notch as well. You aren’t sitting down for more than about 30 seconds before your chips and salsa arrive at your table. Glasses of water might be a good thing to add to the chips and salsa because I have been with people who tried the salsa before water arrived and had to wait out a little too much spiciness before the waitress arrived and could bring us drinks. We’ve been in there enough times that the wait staff knows us pretty well and even speaks a little Spanish to us. It seems like every time we go in now one waitress tries to teach us one new word.

With the great food, big portions and friendly wait staff, Francisco’s Mexican Restaurant is there in Melbourne right up Wickham Road when you get urge for south of the border fixins. It is located at 2447 N. Wickham Rd #146 & #147, Melbourne, FL. Don’t miss it.
